Sibari Calabria

The oldest Greek settlement in Calabria, Sibari is home to a wealth of archaeological treasures

A popular destination for both elite cultural tourism and classic seaside holidays, Sibari owes much of its present prosperity to its truly ancient past. The town is situated in an area of immense archaeological importance. Sibari was founded in 720 B.C. and occupied by diverse groups of settlers from the Achei to the Trezeni, Laos, Scidrus and Poseidonia.

In 1879, excavation work brought to light a vast Necropolis here, much of which is now exhibited in the Sibaritide National Archaeological Museum. Other important archaeological sites in the area include Casabianca, Parco del Cavallo, Strombi.
